As an owner-managed family business Wilckens Farben is one of the leading group-free manufacturers of paints and coatings in Germany. With around 250 employees and production facilities and sales organizations in over 15 countries Wilckens provides solutions for the industrial, marine and decorative sector.
M.Wilckens & Sohn
In 1845 the company M.Wilckens & Sohn was founded by Mars Wilckens in North Germany. Like generations before him, Mars was owner of a mill. The Wilckens family had been trading in grain products of all kinds since 1620. When the export markets were lost due to the First World War, Max Ernst Wilckens started producing paints and varnishes in Glückstadt in the 1920s.
From dry paint to modern coating systems
Our mills have been grinding pigments for 175 years. Starting with the production of dry paint from pure natural products, M. Wilckens & Sohn started producing synthetic-based paint in the early 1930s. Today we produce and distribute thousands of tons of paint and coating systems for the industrial, marine and decorative sector every year.
A strong foundation for our future
Our family business is committed to the generations and continues to focus on stable long-term growth – today in the eleventh generation. In order to meet both environmental and market requirements, Wilckens Farben GmbH moved to a new plant on the outskirts of Glückstadt in the late 1990s. Led by the brothers Dr. Marcus and Michel Wilckens the company expanded and is now one of the leading group-free manufacturers of paints and coatings in Germany. The brothers Max and Johan Wilckens joined the company in 2020.
From Glückstadt to the world
Wilckens produces in Germany at its headquarters in Glückstadt in Schleswig-Holstein, as well as in Italy, Greece and China. Our technical experts support our customers worldwide in the selection and application of coating systems. If you want to be sure, you not only rely on the best material, but also on excellent service – that's what we stand for.
